The UEFA Champions League is Europe's most prestigious club football competition, bringing together the strongest sides from across the continent every season. Since its relaunch in 1992, it has become the undisputed pinnacle of European club football — home to the world's best players and followed by hundreds of millions of fans worldwide.
From the 2024/25 season onward, 36 clubs compete in a league phase where every team plays eight matches against a varied set of opponents in a single standings table. The top eight sides qualify directly for the Round of 16; teams ranked 9th to 24th enter a two-legged knockout playoff; the bottom 12 are eliminated. From the Round of 16 onward, ties are decided over two legs until the grand final — a single match played at a neutral venue in late May.
